If You Could Build An MLB Lineup, What Would It Look Like?

I’ll be honest, I think about this all the time and I started mulling it over again today before deciding I wanted to actually write it down. I love thinking of imaginary lineups of different types of players but I thought I wanted to do discuss what kind of lineup would be my favorite if I could just build one. This starting nine (actually eleven because I’m including a starting pitcher and a reliever) isn’t just about who the best players are, this is more about who is great and who I personally like. So without further ado, here is my dream lineup for 2017.

Let me know in the comments what you think and who you’d want to have playing for this imaginary team that you run.

Catcher- Kyle Schwarber
I know that Schwarbo isn’t exactly the best defensive catcher ever, but I really don’t care. I just want this guy on my team to hit absolute moonshots.

First Base- Anthony Rizzo
Rizzo is here not only because of his ability, but because I feel like he’s a great leader. He’d probably be the captain of this squad.

Second Base- Francisco Lindor
Okay, so I’m cheating a little bit. Lindor is a shortstop, not a second baseman but I just really like him and don’t love any of the options at second that much. I know Jose Altuve is nasty, but I just don’t really like him enough to want him on my team. No one said I couldn’t break the rules and have a guy switch positions!

Shortstop- Corey Seager
There’s a huge crop of young shortstops that includes Seager and Lindor, but I think Seager is the best of the bunch.

Third Base- Nolan Arenado
This was a tough call because Manny Machado and Kris Bryant are both studs. But in my opinion, you really can’t go wrong with who you choose here and Arenado is just my own personal preference.

Left Field- Bryce Harper
I don’t love Harper, but he’s too good to leave off of any team.

Center Field- Mike Trout
It would be pretty hard to justify anyone but Trout in this spot.

Right Field- Mookie Betts
He’s my favorite player in the game, how am I going to leave him off this team?

Designated Hitter- Giancarlo Stanton
Why do I feel like Stanton is somewhat underrated? Is it because he plays in Miami? I have no idea, but he’s a monster and I’d need him on my team simply for intimidation alone.

Starting Pitcher- Chris Sale
I mean, who else? Sale and Clayton Kershaw are the two best in the game by far but I’ll take Sale for a number of reasons, one of which being my homerism.

Relief Pitcher- Andrew Miller
I went with “relief pitcher” instead of closer because Miller can do it all. I love that he can come in for a few innings or just come in to close it out. He’s a stud and his versatility makes him my guy.

Batting Order
Betts
Lindor
Trout
Harper
Stanton
Rizzo
Arenado
Schwarber
Seager
